Caption:
This photograph depicted a dissection taking place of an amputated leg, which had been excised due to a fungal infection known as a eumycetoma, a form of maduromycosis, that had been caused by the fungal organism, Madurella mycetomatis, formerly known as Madurella mycetomii. Note the dark coloration of the lesion dispersed throughout the soft tissue, which was indicative of the presence of chronic inflammatory granules, or grains that are characteristically black in color. See PHIL 24214, for another view of this dissection procedure.
