Under a magnification of 250X, this photomicrograph of a slide culture specimen, revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the Gram-positive bacterium, Nocardia asteroides. Note the branching, hyphae-like filaments composed of bacteria arranged in chains. Nocardia sp. organisms are the cause of the infection known as nocardiosis.
