This photograph depicts an anterior view of a patient’s face, who was exhibiting a condition known as rhagades, which was a result of a congenital syphilis infection. Rhagades are cracks, or fissures in the skin around the mouth. Such a rare type of facial disfigurement, results from persistent infantile syphilitic rhinitis.
