This image depicts the palms of a patient, which displayed what had been diagnosed as a rash of papulosquamous syphilids, or cutaneous eruptions of the disease. The eruption of this rash took place, during the secondary stage of syphilis. This rash appears as rough, red or reddish brown spots that can manifest on the palms, soles, the chest and back, as well as other parts of the body.
