This historic 1967 photograph, depicted an audience of public health professionals, who were attending the first Community Medical Television System (CMTS) test presentation, which took place at the former Communicable Disease Center (CDC), which preceded what is now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One of the primary founders of CMTS was United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Officer, Joseph A. Staton, while at the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) National Medical Audiovisual Center (NMAC) in Atlanta, Georgia. CMTS was started as an audiovisual method for connecting “biomedical teaching institutions, hospitals, clinics, and offices of private practitioners in an instructional network. CMTS commenced operation in 1967 under Staton’s direction, with six participating institutions, Emory University serving as the central locus.”* (*National Library of Medicine News, Vol. XXV, No. 9-10, pp. 3 and 7, Sept.-Oct., 1970)
