Caption:
This image depicted a close view of some of the morphologic features exhibited by a baneberry plant, a member of the genus, Actaea. Also known as bugbane and cohosh, this flowering plant is poisonous, with most of its toxin concentrated in its berries. The plant contains the unstable glucoside, ranunculin, which when enzymatically disassembled, produces glucose, and the toxin protoanemonin, which upon contact with the skin, or mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract, causes irritation, and rashes, and even blistering.
