Caption:
Under a magnification of 450X, and processed using hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) stain, this photomicrograph reveals some of the histopathology seen in a sample of cartilage tissue, due to a case of congenital syphilis. Note the marked irregularity in the provisional zone of ossification, producing a saw-toothed appearance. Also note the presence of small islands of cartilage remaining in the ossified bone.
