This image depicted a lateral view of a young African-American boy, who displayed a scalp infection known as tinea capitis, a fungal infection caused by an organism referred to as a dermatophyte. The fungal pathogen was not identified. You are able to see areas of depigmentation, and alopecia on the scalp surface.
