From a right lateral perspective, this magnified image, revealed morphologic details exhibited by the Oriental rat flea, Xenopsylla cheopis. This particular specimen displayed no proventricular plague mass, as was the case for the X. cheopis, which can be seen in PHIL 2025. The flea species is a known vector for the transmission of the plague bacterium, Yersinia pestis.
