Under a magnification of 1000X, this photomicrograph of a blood smear revealed numbers of erythrocytes containing developing Plasmodium falciparum parasites. Note the centrally-located immature schizont, and that some of the parasitized red blood cells (RBCs) were stippled with Schüffner’s dots.
