Under a magnification of 1000X, this photomicrograph of a blood smear showed erythrocytes containing developing Plasmodium vivax trophozoites. Note that in some of the red blood cells (RBCs), the ring-staged trophozoites were clearly visible, which in three of the parasitized RBCs, stippling with Schüffner’s dots, partially obstructed the rings.
