Caption:
This illustration depicted a dorsal view of an Uranotaenia mosquito larva, and identified the characteristic row of chitinous teeth, arising from a sclerotized plate on the tail, and a number of spines on the larva’s head. If a row of teeth arises from a large sclerotized plate, borne laterally on the eighth abdominal segment, the larva is a member of the genus, Uranotaenia. Members of this genus have characteristically shaped heads, longer than wide. All but one Western species, exhibits four stout spines on the head, highlighted here, in the upper right circular inset.
