This 2016 image depicts packages of the mosquito-control product known as Mosquito Dunks®. This product contains the bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (Bti), which secretes a toxin that only targets mosquitoes, but is harmless to birds, fish, wildlife, and pets. The Dunk is placed in standing water, and will extinguish populations of mosquito larvae for up to a 30-day period. Mosquito Dunks® was one of the items included in each Zika Prevention Kit (PHIL 22665 and 22666), compiled by the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), which also included insect repellent, mosquito netting, condoms to prevent sexual transmission of Zika, and educational materials (PHIL 22667).

CDC’s SNS personnel assembled and delivered approximately 31,000 Zika Prevention Kits throughout U.S. territories. Learn more about the Strategic National Stockpile by clicking the link below.
