Entitled, “Immigrant, Refugee, and Migrant Health Branch”, this image was captured by CDC Medical Officer, B.K. Kapella, MD (LCDR, USPHS), at a makeshift health center/pharmacy in the Dadaab refugee camp, located near the Somali border in Kenya. This 2007 photo, depicted the pharmacy in this refugee camp, situated in a large, open tent. The Immigrant, Refugee, and Migrant Health Branch, Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, was working at the time, with NGOs and UNHCR, to initiate a laboratory-enhanced respiratory and febrile disease surveillance system. This photo earned Dr. Kapella the First Place award in the 2008 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International People”.
