The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Quarantine Station, Public Health Officers respond to sick travelers at 18-international airports, where most international travelers arrive. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), CDC’s close partner at all U.S. ports of entry, alerts CDC about sick travelers, and CDC-regulated importations. This image, captured by CDC staff member, Misty Ellis, showed how CDC personnel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, delivered a brief training, known as a muster, to CBP staff, outlining the steps involved in detecting and responding to public health situations: recognizing, isolating, notifying, and giving support. The picture was an entry in the 2016 CDC Connects, Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the categories of Programs-International and People-International.
