This photomicrograph depicted a section of brain tissue, revealing a thrombosed blood vessel, occluded by a blood clot, and surrounded by a region of lighter tissue, referred to as rarefaction, indicative of an area of resolving infarct, or dead brain tissue, due to this hypoxic insult. There was no reason given, as to the cause of the occluded vessel.
