This photomicrograph revealed what is known as, an endothrix, which is a dermatophytic fungal infection of a hair shaft, confined to the shaft’s interior. In this case, the infection was caused by a fungal organism of the genus, Microsporum. You can see the organism’s mycelium in the hair shaft’s interior.
