This image depicted a close, left anterior-oblique view of a patient’s face, enabling you to see an erythematous maculopapular lesion located on his upper lip, which had resulted due to an infection known commonly as ringworm, or tinea faciei. The responsible dermatophytic fungal organism was identified, as Trichophyton verrucosum.
