This image depicted a close view of a pig’s outer ear. Intradermal injections, consisting of an antigenic mixture prepared from Trichinella spiralis larvae, were administered in this area, in order to test for the presence of a T. spiralis infection in this animal. It is important to note the raised wheal that developed at each injection site, each surrounded by a ring of erythema. These reactions were outlined in a pen line drawn upon the pig’s skin.
