Under a magnification of 400X, this photomicrograph of a liver tissue parenchymal specimen, revealed histopathologic changes due to a case of acute infectious hepatitis. Important findings included loss of the normal lobular cytoarchitecture exhibited by hepatic tissue, a phenomenon referred to as lobular disarray, ballooning degeneration of liver hepatocytes indicative of liver cell death, and canalicular cholestasis, or obstruction of bile flow through the small canals in the organ’s parenchyma.
