This historic 1954 image, depicted laboratorian Janet T. Spillane (Rt), as she was pipetting a fluid into a test tube, during an analysis of biological materials, while searching for the presence of microquantities of DDT (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane), and other insecticides. In the background, assisting Ms. Spillane, was another unidentified technician. This scenario took place inside what was the United States Public Health Service (USPHS), Communicable Disease Center (CDC), Field Station, located in Savannah, Georgia .
