This illustration depicts a photomicrograph of a blood smear processed using Wright stain, and magnified 1500X, thereby, revealing the presence of Plasmodium falciparum schizonts, which had infected two erythrocytes, or red blood cells (RBCs). One RBC had been infected with three parasites, while another contained only one.
