This is a photomicrograph of a section of skin tissue, excised from a patient who had presented with the harmless condition knowns a keratosis pilaris, a drying of the skin on patches, usually on the upper arms, cheeks, thighs of buttocks. It is characterized by areas of roughened, or bumpy skin. This view, highlighted one of the skin’s hair follicles, which was clogged with cellular debris. The cause of this condition was not a vitamin A deficiency.
