This test tube contained an unidentified growth medium, which had been inoculated with the fungal organism, Sporotrichum schenckii, also known as Sporothrix schenckii. At this point, the fungus was in its hyphal, or mycelial form. This wrinkled colony displayed a characteristically leathery, moist appearance. Its coloration ranged from beige, to yellow at it periphery, to a darker, brownish-purple in its more central, older areas.
