This photomicrograph depicted a close view a Petri dish culture plate that had been inoculated with the fungal organism, Trichophyton quinckeanum, also known as Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. quinckeanum. In this view, numbers of fuzzy, round cleistothecia could be seen amongst the hair-like mycelial filaments. These cleistothecia contained numerous asci, each of which in turn, contained the organism’s reproductive cells, known as ascospores.
