This image, captured in 1966, in an undesignated area of Eagle Pass, Texas, depicted two field epidemiologists in the process of applying a water-soluble spray of the organochlorine insecticide, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, more commonly known as DDT. They were adding it to the basin of an evaporation cooler. The basin had acted like a catch pan, storing condensed water, in which Aedes aegypti mosquitoes had laid their eggs.
