This radiograph, known as a splenoportogram, highlighted the thoracoabdominal region of a 48-year-old female patient. The patient was admitted with a case of hepatosplenic schistosomiasis (HSS). After a water-soluble contrast medium had been injected into the spleen, visualization of the splenic veins, and hepatoportal veins was made possible. In this case, due to the HSS, portal hypertension created a high pressure within the hepatic portal veins, and in turn within the splenic vein as well, which could be seen as enlargement of these venous elements.
