Depicted in this image was a glass microscope slide, upon which two blood smears had been performed. On the left, was a thin film smear, which appeared to have washed away during the staining process. This occurred because the thin film smear had not undergone a fixation process. At right, the thick film, on the other hand, had been fixed, enabling it to withstand the staining process.
