This photomicrograph of a thin film human blood smear, revealed a Plasmodium falciparum malarial infection, which was evidenced by the presence of intraerythrocytic, ring-staged trophozoites. You can see in the lower left, a red blood cell (RBC) containing a single organism, while another RBC in the center of this view, contained three discernible rings. Another RBC, at far right, contains a single ring as well.
