This is a photomicrograph of a specimen from a primary monkey kidney (PMK) cell culture, into which influenza virus had been introduced, which was exhibiting signs of a condition known as hemadsorption (HA), a phenomenon exhibited by red blood cells (RBCs) that had been infected by a virus in a cell culture, in this case the influenza virus. Once infected, or invaded by the viral particle, RBCs will then begin attaching themselves, either to one another, or other available particles.
