This was a tissue specimen that had been extracted from a woman, who had been carrying an abdominal pregnancy. Known as an ectopic pregnancy, this tissue section featured a developing fetus that had been implanted outside the uterus, but within the abdominal cavity. In this case, you can see the trophoblastic capsule surrounding the developing fetus, as well as the placenta, through which the fetus derived its required nutritional components, and rid itself of developmental waste products. It was not noted as to the location within the abdominal cavity where this pregnancy had taken place.
