Under a magnification of 1150X, this Gram-stained photomicrograph revealed numerous Gram-negative, Methylobacterium extorquens, also known as Vibrio extorquens bacteria, which had been cultivated on a blood plate, for a 4-day time period, at a temperature of 25°C. Note the large, unstained intracellular vacuoles contained in these bacteria, which makes them difficult to stain with this Gram staining method.
