Caption:
Under a magnification of 1187.5X, and processed using the fluorescent antibody (FA) staining method, this photomicrograph revealed the presence of what appeared to be two attached, Actinomyces israelii bacteria, strain A601, which were observed under ultraviolet light, in what was a specimen harvested from a tonsillar infection. You can see the rod-shaped bacteria that had assumed their characteristic filamentous configuration.
