This image was captured in Niger, West Africa, in 1969, during the worldwide Smallpox Eradication and Measles Control Program. The image depicts a Nigerien man, as he was receiving a vaccination to his upper right arm, by way of a Ped-O-Jet® jet injector. In 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global eradication of smallpox, and recommended that all countries cease vaccination.
