This transmission electron microscopic (TEM) image reveals some of the ultrastructure morphology exhibited by a Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum bacterium, which had been cultured on cotton-tail rabbit epithelium cells (Sf1Ep). T. pallidum is the causative agent of syphilis.
