This image depicts Pakistani Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) resident, Dr. Khushal Khan Kasi, talking with the father of two young children, while his colleague, Dr. Ayaz Chohan was checking the children, in order to see if they displayed the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination scar that would indicate their immunization against tuberculosis. The FETP trains workers on the ground to help countries build sustainable capacity for detecting and responding to health threats. The program develops in-country expertise, so that disease outbreaks can be detected locally, and prevented from spreading.
