Caption:
This image depicts an uncaged, wild striped skunk, Mephitis mephitis, as it was strolling on the ground, in what appeared to be a wooded area. Note the adult human foot on the left. Raccoons, skunks, foxes, and coyotes are the terrestrial animals most often infected with rabies in the United States. All bites by such wildlife must be considered a possible exposure to the rabies virus.
