Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) image of numerous extracellular Bourbon virus particles showing sections through the strands of viral nucleocapsids. Bourbon virus is a member of the genus Thogotovirus, family Orthomyxoviridae. It is not yet fully known how people become infected with Bourbon virus. However, based on what we know about similar viruses, it is likely that Bourbon virus is spread through tick or other insect bites.
