This photomicrograph of a Papanicolaou test, or Pap test, revealed findings indicative of adenocarcinoma of the cervix. Note the purple-staining, malignant cells contained prominent mucin filled intracytoplasmic vacuoles. These cancer cells were surrounded by inflammatory material, including white blood cells (WBCs) and components of a fibrinous exudate.
