Under a magnification of 1150X, this photomicrograph reveals some of the histopathology seen in a peripheral blood smear obtained from a patient with both acute leukemia, and infectious mononucleosis. When this specimen was harvested, the patient was in a state of remission with regards to the leukemia. Due to the fact that this patient was ill with infectious mononucleosis, you can see numerous white blood cells (WBCs), primarily lymphocytes, some of which were atypical in appearance.
