Caption:
This is a photomicrograph of a human tissue section, which had been extracted from the region of the rib cage known as the costochondral junction, revealing histopathologic changes that had been brought on as the result of a vitamin C deficiency, also known as scurvy. Note the presence of a separation between the cartilaginous tissue on the left, and the boney tissue on the right, as well as the development of a lightly-stained, trabeculated cartilaginous network proximal to the zone of calcification (RT), indicative of poor osteoblastic activity within the bone.
