Entitled, “Polio Immunizations in the DRC”, this image was created by CDC Epidemiologist, Mary Alleman, MPH, PhD, in the Global Immunization Division of the Center for Global Health. “Let’s protect our children, vaccination campaigns in DRC”, reads the English translation written on this man’s shirt. The photo was taken during the launch of a Sub-national Immunization Day for polio in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The man was an administrative official for the Kinshasa Province, and had attended the event to show the administration’s support for the initiative. This photo earned Dr. Alleman the Third Place award in the 2012 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International People”.
