This photograph depicts the surface of a Petri dish culture plate that contained a growth medium of cysteine heart agar (CHA), which had been inoculated with the bacterium, Francisella tularensis, and incubated for a 72-hour time period. Note the colonial morphology, characterized by 2-4 mm, smooth, greenish-white, butyrous colonies, each exhibiting an opalescent sheen.
