This was a urease test, used in the taxonomic identification of Mycobacterium spp. bacteria. If a pink color were to have developed, urease activity would have been present, and the test would have been positive. If there was no color change, or the color had changed to yellow, as was the case in all four of these tubes, then urease activity would have been absent, and the test would have been deemed negative, as it was in this case.
