This photograph, made available by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), depicts a view of a skin lesion known as a dysplastic nevus. The central portion of this mole is categorized as a complex papule, which is surrounded by a macular periphery that is irregular, indistinct, and slightly pink. This nevus needs further evaluation by a qualified dermatologist, along with accompanying analysis by a histopathologist in order to determine if this was a benign, or cancerous lesion.
