This posterior view of a Yugoslavian patient’s arms, neck and back, revealed an eczematous rash that had been determined to be what is referred to as an id reaction, also known as disseminated eczema, and generalized eczema, which had been attributed to a kerion reaction to a cutaneous fungal infection. A vesicular rash, or an id reaction, is thought to be a generalized immunologic response to a fungal infection elsewhere on the patient’s body. In this case, the id reaction was in response to a ringworm infection known as a kerion, which involved a dermatophytosis of the scalp.
