This image depicted a close view of a female patient’s perineum, revealing the presence of markedly swollen labia and vulva, which had been diagnosed as a case of elephantiasis, also referred to as esthiomene, due to a lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) infection, caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis.
