These four test tubes represented what are known as slant cultures, and were filled with an unknown growth medium that had been inoculated with an unknown anaerobic bacterium. It is not known if all these tubes contained the same growth medium, or had been inoculated with the same bacterium. This was one of a number of slides that were used to highlight the growth media, tests, and equipment used in bacteriology studies focused on the identification of various anaerobic bacteria.
