Caption:
This image was captured during a bovine necropsy, at a point where the animal’s lungs were being examined. In this particular view, the lungs and mediastinal contents, including the heart, had been excised from the thoracic cavity, revealing the presence of caseous nodules, which turned out to be the result of a case of coccidioidomycosis, a fungal infection due to a Coccidioides sp. organism. See PHIL 16738, for another view of this postmortem procedure.
