This image from January-February, 1975, depicted the holy Ganges River at Buxar, in the Indian State of Bihar, located in Eastern India. You can see stone steps leading down the steep riverbank, which lead worshipers down to the Ganges, enabling them to perform their religious rituals in, and alongside this holy body of water. Note approximately half way down the steps, the man seated in the lotus position, as he was meditating in the morning sunlight. The photograph was captured by a Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Bureau of State Services staff member during one of the smallpox immunization-related trips to that region of the world.
